The Brow Lamination Wet / Dry Removal Debate - which one is correct? - The London Brow Company

The Truth About Brow Lamination: Why Wet Removal is Essential for Perfect Brows

The Truth About Removing Brow Lamination Perm: Wet vs. Dry

There’s been a lot of discussion online and in beauty forums lately about whether or not to remove brow lamination perm with water. Some say it ruins the lift, others claim it impacts brow health, and there’s even concern about how it affects the overall result. With so many mixed opinions, it’s time to set the record straight.

At The London Brow Company, we were the first to introduce Brow Lamination to the UK and the USA, getting our courses accredited on both sides of the pond. With years of experience, specially formulated products, and a team of experts, we’re here to give you the facts.

So, let’s clear up the confusion: Wet removal of step 1 (the perming solution) is essential for all brow laminations, and thanks to our waterproof system, wet removal of all steps is now completely safe. Here’s why this method is the best approach for perfect results.

Understanding the Science Behind Brow Perming

To fully understand why wet removal is so important, it helps to know a bit about how brow perming works:

  • Step 1 – Perm Solution: The perm solution (step 1) works by breaking down the disulphide bonds in the hair, which are responsible for its shape. By breaking these bonds, we can reshape the brow hairs into a new, more defined form. However, the perm solution continues working until it’s completely removed. If left on too long, it can over-process the hair, causing damage.

    • Why Wet Removal? Wet removal with water and a cotton pad is the only way to safely stop the chemical process. On thicker brows, it’s essential to wet remove more than once to make sure the solution isn’t trapped beneath the surface. This prevents over-processing and ensures a healthier, more consistent lift.
  • Step 2 – Neutraliser: Neutraliser is responsible for reforming the disulphide bonds broken in step 1, fixing the hair in its new shape. It also reseals the hair’s cuticle and returns the brow’s pH balance to a neutral level. However, neutraliser cannot stop the perming process—it only reforms the broken bonds. That’s why step 1 must be fully removed with water first.

If the perm solution is not properly removed before neutralising, the bonds will continue to break, and the neutraliser won’t work effectively. This can lead to weakened, brittle brows.

Our Waterproof System: Wet Removal of All Steps is Now Completely Safe

Thanks to our advanced waterproof system, wet removal is now 100% safe for all steps of the brow lamination process. You can confidently wet remove not only the perm solution but also the neutraliser without worrying about affecting the result.

This innovation gives you more control and precision, ensuring that every step is applied and removed in the safest way possible. Our waterproof system means you no longer need to follow outdated techniques from lash lifts (where steps were sometimes dry-removed to keep the lashes in place with adhesive). Wet removal now provides a more thorough and consistent treatment, without any risk of over-processing.

Common Misconceptions: Brow Lamination vs. Lash Lifts

Many therapists using lash perm solutions for brows are mistakenly applying lash lift techniques to brow lamination. Traditionally, lash lifts required dry removal of both step 1 and step 2 to prevent disrupting the adhesive used to secure the lashes. However, this technique often led to over-processing.

With our waterproof system, we recommend wet removal for lash lifts as well as brow laminations. This ensures that no product is left behind, which means healthier, better-shaped brows and lashes.

Why Do We Tell Clients to Keep Brows Dry Post-Treatment?

After brow lamination, we advise clients to keep their brows dry for 24-48 hours. This is to protect the bonds that have been reformed and to allow the neutraliser to fully seal the hair cuticle. It’s not about keeping the hair dry during the treatment process but about ensuring the neutraliser can continue to do its job without interference from water or products.

If clients get their brows wet too soon, it can interfere with the hair’s structure and pH balance, potentially leading to weakened results.

Why Wet Removal is Always the Safest Method

Whether you’re working with brow or lash perm solutions, wet removal is the safest and most effective method for ensuring the health of your client’s hair. Perm solution will continue to work as long as it remains on the hair, and water is the only way to fully stop the chemical process. There is no scientific basis for dry removal of perm solution.

Our waterproof system makes wet removal even safer and easier, allowing you to confidently complete each step of the lamination process without fear of damaging the hair or affecting the lift.
